Canaan Trust Sleep Out 2013
Hello
faithful readers it has been a very busy week here at KAM and we would like to
tell everyone about the successful Canaan Trust Sleep Out that took place on 19th April 2013.
As you may know we are long time sponsors of the Canaan Trust and are always looking to help the people within our community.
The
KAM team were very happy to be a part of the event and our very own Senator
Shaun presented Canaan Trust manager Kevin Curtis with the grand total raised by
KAM- £500. Thanks to all those who so
kindly donated to this great cause. All the KAM boys, girls, families, friends
and customers gave very generously and now we can help the local homeless to
rebuild their lives.
As you may know we are long time sponsors of the Canaan Trust and are always looking to help the people within our community.
It
was a great night and all the KAM boys and girls came out to support our very
own Amazing Antony and Super Sara. They pitched up their tent alongside all the
other sleepers and braved the cold to sleep rough all night. Decked out in
their KAM Servicing onesies our team did us proud and helped to raise a lot of
money.
Mayor
Jennifer Culls and MP Jessica Lee also took part in the event held on Market
Place, Long Eaton and gave great speeches to keep everyone’s spirits high.
Many
of you may not be aware of the growing problem of homelessness but it exists
and is increasing. More and more people are finding themselves the victims of
circumstance and the Canaan Trust is there to help.
KAM
decided to back this great cause because we think we should help the people of
our community who are in desperate need of our help. It is always rewarding to
give back and we feel privileged to be part of this great cause.
The Canaan Trust needs £125,000 to run each
year and we want people to donate as much as they can so that we can help put
the problem of homelessness to bed.
The KAM team’s Rickee ‘the rockstar’ paid a
visit to the Canaan Trust headquarters in Long Eaton and we can tell you the
money is going to a great cause.
Rickee
said: “After going to the Canaan Trust and spending some time with Kevin I saw
just how great the work the Canaan Trust do is. There definitely is a stigma
attached to homelessness especially males and we just want people to see that
these people need our help not our scorn.”
Canaan
Trust manager Kev Curtis also explained why homeless men in particular were not
seen as a priority. He said: “Men are not given the same access to council
housing and so they end up on the street. Sleeping in tents and often gets
abused by members of the public. We want to help these men rebuild their lives
and we give them the skills to make a better life for themselves.”
“Thanks
to the KAM team for their continued support- they have been very generous by
providing vans and banners and generally seeing that the Sleep Out was a
success. The £500 that was donated will go a long way towards helping those in
need. Hopefully people will follow KAM’s lead and help us out.”
To
donate go to your local KAM depot where we have donation buckets at the ready
(they are getting heavy too) or go online and donate at www.justgiving.com/kamservicing
and you can pay with credit/debit car or via PayPal.
Thanks
to all those who have donated- we really appreciate it.
You can leave your comments, questions and
queries at www.twitter.com/kamservicing
and on our blog at www.drkev-kam.blogspot.com
.
Remember
faithful reader, our team of dedicated and hardworking staff at the branches in
Sutton, Long Eaton, Bulwell, Stapleford, Beeston and Belper along with our
bodywork shop are open every day of the week, EXCLUDING Sunday’s, while the
lads at our Sawley and Heanor workshops are at your service seven days a week,
keeping your car where it belongs. ON THE ROAD.

Canaan Trust Sleep Out 2013
KAM are very proud
sponsors of the Canaan Trust charity in Long Eaton. We were heavily involved in
their fundraising last year in their successful bed push events.
The events raised a lot
of money and we were very happy to be able to help out this great homeless
charity. This year we are gearing up again for another big event in the Canaan
Trust calendar- the Canaan Trust Big Sleep Out 2013.It will take place on Market Place, Long Eaton on 19th April and all sleepers are welcome. Those taking part will be the Mayor Mayor Jennifer Cull and MP Jessica Lee as well as our very own KAM Team.
Amazing Antony and Super Sara will be participating in the event from 8pm to 7am and all of KAM is getting on board to donate and sponsor as much as we can. d we hope you will join in by sponsoring them.
For those who do not know
the Canaan Trust is an independent charity that provides vital help for
homeless men aged 16-54. They provide a safe haven for people who have fallen
on hard times and help them to rebuild their lives.
They are based in Long
Eaton and help the homeless in the whole of Erewash- Nottingham and Derby. As a company that was founded in Long Eaton here at KAM we are choose projects that we know will benefit our community. This is why we have partnered with the Canaan Trust to sponsor this year’s Sleep Out.
We want to raise awareness
of the plight of the homeless and we hope you will join us. You can donate as
little as £1 in the donation buckets in all of our depots. You can also go
online and donate at our Just Giving page at www.justgiving.com/kamservicing
We can make a real
difference and help those in our community who have lost everything.
The Canaan Trust undertakes great work, giving each person the attention
they need and help in all areas including housing and education. But they do
need our help to provide these fantastic services...
Let’s all do something great this Easter and help those on our own
doorstep!!
KAM will be there on the night- Will You??

KAM Sawley To The Rescue
This week we
received a call from a startled Miss G who had experienced a fright while
driving along the road. “It was a large bang that just came out of nowhere Kev.
I am so scared to get back in.” Miss G was shaken by the noise and was stranded
unable to drive and I need of the KAM team’s help.
Our Sawley depot
was the site of the distress call and it was a rather busy morning for the
boys. We had mysteries being solved left, right and center. Would we be able to
help Miss G? I scored the workshops and spotted Diagnostic Dan busy, diagnostic
machine in hand. Tasmanian Trev had his head tucked under another car and it
appeared that the whole workforce was otherwise occupied with the plight of
other cars. Just as I was about to load up the truck myself a familiar voice
said. “What’s next Kev?” It was Flywheel Lee who had just finished one gremlin
hunting mission and was ready for another.
Lee immediately
loaded up the ‘twuck wid da fwashin lights’ and went upon his mission to rescue
Miss G and her Ford KA.
It was not long
till he returned with a more relaxed Miss G and the lifeless car in tow. We
welcomed Miss G with a nice hot coffee and as she explained again how the
banging noise had come out of nowhere and that she needed her car for the next
day. “I know it’s a lot to ask but I am happy to wait here while you work on
it. I just want to make sure it’s safe to drive and I only trust in the KAM
team.”
Here at KAM safety
is key and we do all we can to ensure that your car is at its best. We will do
a number of FREE checks on request if you feel unsafe in your car. Our talented
technicians will find and fix any and all faults. We guarantee high quality
repairs at the lowest prices so just give us a call.
While Miss G
occupied herself with daytime’s finest TV Lee got straight to work with his
preliminary checks.
It was not long
till the famous words rang through the workshop and even caught the ears of
Miss G who raised a smile. “I’ve got it Kev.”
It so transpired
that the frightening bang did not cause as much damage as we had feared. It was
a simple case of a snapped coil spring, which can occur over a period of time.
Speed bumps and potholes can also be the cause of snapped coil springs so be
careful when you drive. A broken coil spring can cause imbalance in the car and
this can be dangerous while you are driving so Miss G had made the right
decision to call the KAM team. Fortunately for her the damage had not been too
damaging to her car or her purse.
Lee called our fantastic suppliers who arrived
promptly with the replacement parts. A new pair of coil springs were fitted with
expert precision by Lee, as coil springs should always be replaced in pairs due
to tensions & balance of the axle and as with nearly all suspension repairs
we would need to realign the wheels. The alignment was reset using our 4 wheel
laser aligning machine and then it was time for a road test. Miss G asked to
accompany Lee so that she could see the results of the KAM team’s hard work for
herself.
They both embarked
on the road test and upon their return both he and Miss G had huge smiles
adorning their faces. “You did it guys. This car is back in the fast lane.”
Miss G said with delight.

Winter Driving Tips with KAM
KAM's Winter tips:
It is very important to ensure that oil levels are topped up and are checked weekly especially during the winter.
Low oil levels can be a danger to you and your car safety. If there is not enough oil then the engine gets worn quicker and this can lead to more problems and more expenditure!!
The engine relies heavily on the flow of oil and so in extreme cases the damage can be quite catastrophic. Do not wait till the oil light appears on the dashboard- call today!!
Here at KAM we can check all your levels and ensure that your car is ready to take on the winter weather- from oil to antifreeze we have all the corners covered.
Go to www.kamservicing.com for all your motoring needs!!

Winter Driving Tips- KAM Servicing
KAM’s Winter Car Tips:
Ensure that your antifreeze
levels are topped up- this will prove very important in preventing your engine
and radiators from freezing up in the coming months. Your antifreeze levels should be between the maximum and minimum. Low levels can cause damage to the engine and radiators, which could prove costly.
At KAM we offer Antifreeze checks and top ups from just £9.99 so come on down if you think yours may be running low. If you don’t know how to check the levels do not worry. Here at KAM our fantastic technicians are here to help and will ensure that your car is ready to take on the winter weather.
With the festive period afoot why not let KAM Servicing save you money!!

Mr T's Major Trafic Problem
Hello faithful readers. The floods have been sweeping the
country as more of the Midlands become submerged in water. We would like to
extend our thought to all those affected and we hope the inconvenience isn't
long lasting. Here at KAM we want to help in whatever way possible and so for
anybody whose car has been affected make sure to come to KAM and let us help.
Our talented technicians are on hand to take on all those flooding frights and
so you won't have to worry about a thing. You can trust in the KAM team- come
rain or shine!!
This week it was our Heanor depot that
received a call from Mr T who was stranded after his Renault Trafic had
suffered a collapsed wheel. “Kev I have to be at work and my van is literally
my livelihood.” Mr T was not exaggerating as he was in fact a plumber and his
van housed all his tools. With the van broken down he needed help to get the fault
fixed but more importantly to get to work.
This is where KAM Servicing’s fast and
efficient recovery service would come in handy and so we loaded up the ‘twuck
wid da fwashin lights’ and Tasmanian Trev was on his way. To save Mr T time, so
that he did not have to miss out on any income we also sent along a KAM van so
that he could carry on with his day. While loading up the Renault Trafic, Trev
took all the necessary details and ensured Mr T that we would keep him updated
on the car’s developments.
It was not long till Trev returned to the
depot with the van in tow. The wheel looked rather unsightly and it was up to
the KAM team to fix the car and get it back to Mr T as soon as possible. It was
the turn of Jump Lead John as this week’s mystery solver and he got straight to
work stripping back the layers to take a closer look. It was underneath these
layers that John discovered something rather surprising. “Kev there is new
brake discs and pads. They look like they could have been fitted yesterday.”
This was rather odd and pointed to a job that had not been completed or had not
been undertaken properly. We rang Mr T and he explained: “Oh yes Kev my son
fitted those but he did tighten the wheels after.” It appeared that Master T’s
DIY mechanics had not been as successful as he had hoped and had caused some
damage to the car. But how much???
![]() |
| Tasmanian Trev with all his tools!! |
Senator Shaun was then brought in to get to
the bottom of the problem. He again stripped back the brakes to get a better
look. It was not long till the infamous
words rang out and it so transpired that the wheel bearings in the brake discs
had not been properly tightened. This had led to a domino effect on other car
parts as the load of the vehicle had caused the bearings to overheat, which had
in turn melted them to the stub axle causing the wheel to collapse. Now this
all sounds very complicated but this was not a catastrophe as it could all be
repaired by our talented mechanics.
![]() |
| It is Senator Shaun to the rescue!! |
The brakes were salvageable but it would
take a delicate and precise hand to remove the pieces of bearings that had
stuck to the stub axle. Armed with his tools and his steady hand it was not
long till the pieces were removed and the axle was in perfect condition. It was just some old school mechanics, which
has been lost in this era of computers and automated repair systems (which KAM
also like to use). The stub axle threads were also repaired so that all the
components were fully functioning. To finish we fitted new bearing and then
properly tightened the wheels so that no more problems would occur.
With our mechanics working hard the wheel
was back to new in no time and after a thorough check suddenly the whole van
came to life. It was another triumph for the KAM team. “We did it Kev. This car
is back in the fast lane” Shaun said with a smile.
Mr
T arrived later and was ecstatic to have his car back fault free. “Wow Kev.
Your boys really work hard to accommodate the customer and I could not be
happier. These prices are unbelievable.”
