Mr L's Vexed Vivaro

Hello faithful readers it has been another busy week here at KAM as we take on those dreaded car gremlins. We hope everyone is enjoying the summer holidays, hopefully the parents aren’t pulling their hair out and the kids are behaving themselves. Here at KAM our boys are hard at work every day ensuring that your cars are kept fault free for the surprisingly summery summer.

For more go to www.facebook.com/kamservicing
I would like to take this opportunity to let all of our faithful readers know that there will be a few changes to our newsletter. Due to KAM’s continued commitment to move with the times we will no longer be appearing in the weekly newspaper column. But alas this is not the end for the KAM team as we will still be posting our weekly adventures here on our blog.

In an effort to reach more of the online community we will be releasing the newsletter exclusively online and we hope you will all join us. I, like many of you are a little sceptical of blogs and such but we have found an easily accessible platform from which we can bring you all the latest KAM news and developments.
We hope to build on our current success and look forward to seeing where the KAM Servicing Empire will expand to. We hope you are all along for the ride. So thank you to all of you who have been our faithful readers and we will see you in the 21st century... (Don’t worry I’ve been ensured that ‘The Terminator’ may have got it wrong)

This week’s diagnostic dilemma comes courtesy of Mr L, who visited our Sawley depot this past Sunday. Mr L, a painter, had been experiencing some problems with his Vauxhall Vivaro van and through a recommendation had landed on our door step. He was due at work on Monday and so was especially happy that we were open on his one day of.

“Hi Dr Kev.  My mum said you can fix any problem and my van is full of them! Please say you can fix it today.” The problem at hand was an appearance of the EML (engine management light), plus repetitive stalling and the van cutting out intermittently when Mr D was driving.
Mr L bought in his Vauxhall Vivaro

“I don’t know what’s going on with it - I have to travel to people’s houses for work and this is not making it easy”. Mr L was forthcoming with all the van’s details and history. “I took it to a local garage recently for an oil and filter change. The price was too good to turn down but I’m wishing I hadn’t now.”

It turned out that mere minutes after leaving the garage, the EML had appeared and so the stalling began. Mr L returned to the garage to explain the problem but they were unable to help as they did not have the equipment to deal with any major diagnostic jobs. “They were a tyre, exhaust and lubrication centre and they said that I would need to go to a garage to fix the problem!”

So not only was Mr L left out of pocket he now had a faulty car with further repairs and more expenditure pending. We assured Mr L that we would only charge for necessary repairs and that the costs would be kept low. ‘Handy Andy’ got straight to work and hooked the car up to our state of the art diagnostic machines awaiting the results. After just 10 minutes he returned to the reception.

Handy Andy with his state of the art diagnostic machine..
“I’ve got it Kev.” It so transpired that the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve was stuck open causing a vacuum leak. This leak resulted in the car stalling and cutting out as well as the appearance of the EML. The EGR valve helps the car to burn fuel efficiently by recirculating a portion of your exhaust and running it through the combustion process again.

Andy gave the EGR valve a thorough clean and placed it in the right position so that no more problems would occur. The EML needed a simple reset and then Tornado Tyla gave the van a good clean before a successful road test ensued. “We did it Kev. This van is back in the fast lane.” Andy said as he arrived back at the depot with a smile across his face.

Mr L arrived a short while later but was still a little sceptical as he had been let down by a garage previously so would need some extra assurance. He therefore embarked on another road test with yours truly and upon return was most complimentary.

“Wow Kev you boys definitely excel in all areas. The quality of repairs, customer service and especially price- KAM Servicing are the only garage I’ll be using from now on.  Thanks.”

Mr B's Vivaro Vex

I hope everyone enjoyed the fantastic Jubilee celebrations. I had a great bank holiday reprieve from all the gremlin hunting and the boys were able to relax and recharge. The Jubilee concert was fantastic and a great way to showcase all that is great about our country. A sea of patriotism was evident and Mandy, the kids and myself had a great time at a street party with all of our neighbours.

Now while we were all celebrating the KAM boys at our Sawley and Heanor depots were hard at work defeating those pesky gremlins. So dedicated is your KAM team that we opened our shutters to our faithful customers at all depots on Jubilee Tuesday.

While everybody was enjoying the festivities our newly assembled Beeston team were taking on the Jubilee jams.  Our Beeston depot has been seeing more and more customers arriving at the garage and trusting us to fix their cars. Super Sunny has been manning the ship and accompanied by the healing powers of ‘Big Job Ben’, ‘Fearless Frank’, Tornado Tyler’ and ‘Diagnostic Dan’, they have become a KAM force to be reckoned with.

It was on Jubilee Tuesday that we received a visit from Mr B. Now this was not a normal entrance as Mr B arrived not in his car but as the passenger in a recovery truck. As the van, a Vauxhall Vivaro was unloaded Mr B entered the Beeston reception and looked deflated as he explained his van’s conundrum. “Kev you have to help me, my van is suffering from some major problems.” Now this was a bank holiday and most garages were shut but Mr B had seen us on Google and had decided to try us out. Mr B had been on his way from a supply store and his car had inexplicably broken down.

But there was more to this tale of woe. “Kev I am a self employed painter and I know you can understand how hard it can be to find business and keep afloat. I have a big job booked in for this afternoon and I must have my van back. I have read you are the best. Please say you can help.” Mr B was in desperate need of our help and we could not let him down. After all the details were taken we whisked Mr B of in one of our courtesy cars with a promise that he would not miss out on his job later. We were, on this particular day very busy as many customers had taken advantage of our Jubilee opening. But here at KAM we never leave a man behind and so I scoured the workshop for this week’s mystery solver.

My eyes fell on Diagnostic Dan who had just finished with his first mystery of the day. “I’ll take it Kev.” He replied throwing down the gauntlet. As we were working to a fast approaching deadline Dan got straight to work. He hooked the car up to one of our state of the art diagnostic machines and awaited the results. A short while later the results were released and they showed that there was no fuel coming to the injection rail. This would be the reason for the car breaking down but what was the cause of this problem? Dan also checked the fuel pressure pumps and it was revealed that there was no signals going to them either and so Dan would need to dig a little deeper. Conscious of the time, Dan then got to work, looking over the car, making sure to leave no stone unturned in his quest for the truth.

I started to get worried after some time lapsed. Would the van be ready in time? We were cutting it close but finally after a short while the infamous words rang out.” It so transpired that the wiring above the fuel tank had shorted out, which was good news as Dan could easily fix it. However the second fault was found in a faulty pressure regulator valve and this part would be near impossible to source on a bank holiday as our fantastic suppliers were shut.

We pondered the conundrum, we could not let Mr B down and so we would need a solution and then it came to Dan. “Kev we have the KAM Vauxhall Vivaro in Long Eaton, we could take the valve out of there and temporarily use it to fix Mr B’s van and then replace Mr B’s valve tomorrow when the suppliers are open.” It would certainly mean that Mr B could make his job and he would not lose out on any money. So we called to ask him if this was okay.
After he gave the green light Dan made his way to Long Eaton and picked up the necessary part for the Vivaro. He arrived later and fitted it and after the wiring was fixed the van was ready to go.

Mr B came back later to pick the car up and was ecstatic to have a fully functioning car. “Wow Kev you have really gone above and beyond the call of duty. I’m so glad I chose KAM this is the best service I have ever had.”

Mr B was able to do his job on Tuesday and when the new part arrived the next day Dan fitted it without any fuss to have the van back as good as new.

KAM Beeston Editorial

Large workshop: More than £100,000 has been invested in new equipment including five ramps.

Hello faithful reader we were lucky enough to be in this week's Nottingham Post's Motoring section with a great editorial about our new Beeston branch here it is, happy reading:

KAM's new state- of- the- art garage opens in Beeston

KAM Servicing has continued to expand their business with the recent opening of a new depot in Beeston.
The new site was unveiled on May 8th and the KAM team are looking forward to rolling up their shutters to take on new motoring challenges.
KAM Servicing has been a staple in the motoring trade for over 30 years and has seen its business develop increasingly over the years. From one garage, KAM has strongly built up its portfolio to 7 workshops around Nottingham and Derbyshire. They have seen off the recession and in doing so have been able to bring their quality services to more and more customers, while maintaining an excellent reputation. The addition of the Beeston depot shows the strength of the company and the demand for high quality car repairs.
The new site on Queens Road East, Beeston, is ready and waiting to take on all makes and models of cars. The last lick of paint has been applied, the signs have been raised and the shutters have already welcomed an influx of new customers.
There have been 5, state of the art ramps installed into the large workshop. These will ensure that all cars can be given equal attention and there will be no long waiting periods. There is also a stylish waiting room for customers to enjoy while their cars are being repaired. Here customers will be able to relax on comfortable leather sofas, enjoy watching the plasma television and indulge in a hot beverage from the state of the art vending machine.
Over £100,000 has been invested into new equipment. Manager Kev Allen says: “Whenever we open a new garage we only use the best equipment to make sure that all diagnostic work is fast and efficient. Our customers are our first priority and we hope they recognize our commitment to providing the best services.”
The new equipment means that KAM Beeston will be able to provide a high quality MOT service. A ministry automated MOT testing lane has been installed and so all work undertaken will be to highest standards.  There is a limited time offer for a free MOT with a full service from only £99 (dependant on make and model).
Other offers at KAM include FREE brake performance check, FREE car level checks, FREE battery and alternator checks, FREE suspension and steering checks and a full health check for your car. If any problems should arise and the KAM team need to keep your car for repairs a FREE courtesy car can also be arranged.
One way to guarantee long lasting repairs is by hiring fully trained and dedicated staff to take on all major and minor faults. One of the many new faces of the Beeston depot will be ‘Tornado Tyler’. Having started as a fledgling apprentice, Tyler has proven to be one of KAM’s brightest stars. He says: “Working for KAM has been fantastic as they have helped me to become a great mechanic and I feel very happy to be a part of KAM’s continuing success.”
‘Super Sunny’ from the successful Belper depot will be transferring to Beeston to take the reins. He says: “It is great to see KAM expanding and we look forward to seeing where the future takes us.”
Sunny will be managing the site with the help of KAM favourite ‘Fearless Frank’, who has been an integral part of the company for many years. He says: “With all my years in this business I have a good idea of what people look for when they bring their cars in. They want a high quality service, good customer service skills, great prices and a smile. Here at KAM we give the customers what they want.”
The Beeston branch is located on 122 Queens Road East, Beeston Nottingham. The depot will be open every day except Sundays. If you are experiencing any car problems call the depot on 0115 678 111.
