Mr F's Frightening Focus- From Horwich to Holland

Hello faithful readers it has been another busy week at KAM as the winter chill begins to set its gremlins on to your cars. This winter make sure to come down to KAM so that we can keep you and your car safe. Our talented technicians can take on any faults that may besiege your car and so don’t let a fault stop all the Christmas shopping and festivities to come.

Here at KAM we know how easy it can be to get carried away with the upcoming Christmas preparations and so we are here to help. At KAM we are now offering a FREE 10 point winter safety check including a free screen wash top up. According to the RAC you are 50% more likely to break down at home during the winter. So let the KAM team keep you safe. Don't get caught out this winter!!

This week was quite the eventful week at KAM and it was at our Long Eaton depot that we received a call from Mr F. This was no ordinary call as it was on the eve of Mr F’s departure from England and he needed his car so that he could travel back to his native Holland. “You have to help me Kev, my car has broken down and I am supposed to be on a ferry tomorrow, please say you can help me.  Mr F had been in the country a few months and his car had suffered from no end of problems.  “Kev I have taken it to another garage and they replaced the crank shaft sensor and the cam sensor and now they are telling me the ECU needs to be tested and I can only imagine how expensive that is going to be.

Mr F had lost faith in the other garages after they had been unable to fix the problem and so he contacted us after reading about our exploits online. “Kev you have to help me. I have to be in Harwich tomorrow and hopefully with a car that works.

Mr F was desperate and it was a race against time to see if we could have his car fixed and fault free for the next day. We assured Mr F that we could fix any problems and that he would make it to his ferry. We dispatched Derby Road Dan to rescue Mr F and his Ford Focus and to save him time we also sent a courtesy car so he could carry on with his day.

With all the details taken the car was hoisted up onto our state of the art ramps and our crack team of mechanics got to work trying to decipher the problem. Benjamin Button, Diagnostic Dan and Tasmanian Trev were quick to start the testing of the various areas of the car. All studied the car with great intensity looking out for any visible faults. Armed with their specialist tools our A team of mechanics were quick to analyse the results it was not long till the ‘Eureka’ moment. It was Dan who was the bearer of good news “We’ve got it Kev.”

It so transpired that the fuel pump in the petrol tank was not functioning correctly. This was brilliant news as it meant that the ECU would not need to be replaced and would save Mr F hundreds of pounds. All that was required was a new fuel pump, which arrived promptly from our fantastic suppliers. The petrol tank was drained of fuel and the new part was fitted by our hard working technicians.  It was then time for the moment of truth. Trev was seated behind the wheel and turned the key in the ignition. All the boys waited with baited breath- this would need to be a success otherwise Mr F would be left disappointed. The key was turned... and the car roared back to life. “We did it Kev.” Trev shouted with a smile.

Mr F arrived later and was very happy to have his car back and ready for his imminent departure.  “Kev I can’t believe that you have fixed it and in such a short amount of time. I have finally found a garage that I can trust and I’ll definitely be adding to your great reputation on the Good Garage Scheme.

Hello faithful readers and welcome to another week of adventures from the KAM team. We have been very busy this week as you continue to heed the call and more and more of your cars are being restored to perfect health. You can leave your comments, questions and queries at www.twitter.com/dr_kev and  our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/kamservicing.
With our grand opening on Tuesday I am happy to report that our new depot in Beeston is off to a flying start. Our busy mechanics have been hard at work fixing the cars of Beeston’s finest and we are welcoming new mysteries every day. Super Sunny has been handling the reigns and he along with Fearless Frank and Tornado Tyla are ensuring that all work undertaken is to the highest standard.
The KAM Beeston team are happy to tend to all your motoring needs and we are happy to inform you of all of the special offers we have to offer you:
We are happy to take on all makes and models of car and we will ensure that your car is road ready. A ministry approved automated MOT lane has been installed and the equipment is of the highest quality possible. We can also take on all vans and large vehicles. You can get a free MOT with a full service from only £99 (dependant on make and model), so make sure to come down to take advantage of this great offer.
The brakes within your car are an important component on keeping you safe and so we offer a FREE brake performance check. Our trusted Beeston mechanics will check that all brakes are in full working order and that you are kept safe.
It is also important to keep your car levels topped up and so the KAM team will top them up as you wait in our comfy waiting room and sample the delights of our coffee machine. Other services include half price wheel alignment and FREE battery and alternator checks. We will also be offering half price fault code reading, FREE suspension, steering checks and a full health check for your car.    Our staff at Beeston are fully trained in all areas of mechanics and with all of our top of the line tools and equipment we are ready to take on all gremlins. The workshops at our Beeston depot are fully equipped with state of the art diagnostic equipment. We have scoured the country to find the best machines and so we cannot wait to get down to the diagnosis process, should you decide to come through our doors. We have a great record in diagnosing problems and we hope to continue our winning record by ensuring that all cars are fixed to the highest standard.
Our prices are unbeatable and we pride ourselves on having the best prices in the Midlands. We here at KAM Beeston will make sure that you are not left with a large bill and mounting costs and will only consider undertaking work with your permission. We will devise a bespoke plan of action for all repairs and so you will not be disappointed with our services. We work hard to put our customers first and we look forward to meeting you.
I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce a new member of the team. We will be seeing more over the coming weeks and it will be interesting to see if any of them can challenge Dan for KAM’s resident ‘mechanical wizard’. First is ‘Tornado Tyla’, he was an apprentice at KAM and now is a fully-fledged member of the team. He will be on hand to take on all mysteries but is a qualified tyre and exhaust specialist and so I predict a lot of success from him.
There will be more of the team introduced in time but there will also be help from some old favourites. Our very own Diagnostic Dan will be on hand to help out with any diagnostic mysteries and will be hoping to impart some of his wisdom to our new team. Senator Shaun will also be overseeing some quality control and will ensure that the garage runs smoothly for the first few weeks.  I will also be there- so if you would like to come down and visit we look forward to your call.
Remember faithful reader, our team of dedicated and hard working staff at the branches in Sutton, Long Eaton, Bulwell and Belper along with our bodywork shop are open every day of the week, EXCLUDING Sunday’s, while the lads at our Sawley and Heanor workshops are at your service seven days a week, keeping your car where it belongs. ON THE ROAD.
So until next week faithful reader, drive safely and keep it shiny side up.

Mr J's Primera Perplexity

This week we received a visit from Mr J, a new customer to KAM, who was in dire need of the KAM teams help. It was a bright and brisk Monday morning and the KAM boys were hard at work. Tasmanian Trev was getting started on his first mystery of the day and the rest of the boys were rooting through their toolboxes, looking for the right tools to effectively beat those pesky gremlins. We have been very busy over the winter period as more and more customers take advantage of our free winter check. If your car becomes victim to the weather the effects can be detrimental and very costly. So come down to KAM and we will check your brakes, tyre pressures, anti freeze, lights and levels to ensure that your car is ready to take on all conditions.
On this particular morning Mr J called into our Bulwell depot and was in quite a panicked state. “Oh Kev, please say you can help me. I don’t know what else to do. Everyone is staring and I just can’t believe this has happened here.” Mr J sounded hysterical and I was eager to hear what predicament had got him in such a twist. “Kev my Nissan Primera has just stopped right here in the middle of the petrol station. Please say you can help.” Mr J had been filling up and had gone to restart the car and was met with a heavy silence as the car had failed to start. Now he was stuck at the petrol station with a broken down car and he needed the KAM team’s help. Tasmanian Trev was first to load up the ‘twuck wid da fwashin lights’ and sped away to rescue Mr J from his petrol station jam. He also went with a courtesy car in tow so that Mr J could get on with his day with no further embarrassment or inconvenience.
Trev arrived back at the garage a short while later. I looked around the workshop and everyone appeared to be busy. There were bodies under cars and heads under bonnets as the boys worked hard on their cars. I did wonder if this would be my chance to dust off my old diagnostic gloves and get stuck into our newest mystery. I was just about to get stuck in when I heard the infamous words “This car is back on the fast track. What’s next?” It was the voice of Benjamin Button and he was ready for his next mechanical mission. He got straight to work and hoisted the car up onto the ramp so the mystery solving could commence. Armed with his gauges and diagnostic machine, Ben got to work and awaited the results. After a short while the infamous words rang out “I’ve got it Kev. I can’t believe it was that easy actually.” It so transpired that the starter motor had shorted out and was the reason for the car’s stagnant position. We called up our fantastic suppliers and the part arrived promptly and Ben fitted it with military style precision. It then came time for the moment of truth and Ben turned the key in the ignition. The boys waited with bated breath as the key was turned and… a gentle purring erupted from the engine. “That’s another one back on the fast track Kev, I wish they were all that easy”
Mr J arrived later and was elated to see his car back in such great condition. “Wow Thanks Kev, as a first time customer it’s so great to see you take care of all your customers with such great care and attention.”
