Mrs S's Astra Anomaly
Hello faithful readers it has been another hectic week at
KAM as more and more of you take advantage of our great offers and low prices.
The countdown to the Olympics has begun and aside from the
security issues I look forward to the ensuing events especially the opening
ceremony next week. I hope everyone who was lucky enough to get tickets enjoys
it I know I will be from the comfort of my sofa. It is certainly going to be a
fun filled 2 weeks and I for one cannot wait to watch the show. Good luck to all
those competing and hopefully it will be a golden summer for England.
This
week we received a visit from Mrs S who called in quite a state after
experiencing some problems with her car. “Kev you have to help me. I don’t know
what has happened with my car. One minute it is was okay and then I get the
trifecta and suddenly my car is overcome with a plethora of problems.” Mrs S
seemed to be quite shaken and so I reassured her that whatever the problem we
would be able to fix it. She then explained that the problems had started a few
days earlier as she had noticed that the steering wheel had become awkward to
manoeuvre. Mrs S had not seen this as a threat to her driving and so had
momentarily ignored the issue and now she was left with even more problems and
was in dire need of our help.
“Kev I went out to my Vauxhall Astra this morning
and there is smoke coming from the engine as well as a really bad noise, which
I am guessing is not a good thing.” Mrs S was worried that her car was beyond
repair and was far too scared to drive it. “Please say you can help Kev.” As an
added conundrum Mrs S was on her way to work at a new job and was now stranded
at home eager to get her car fixed and not to miss out on her first day of
work.
With Mrs S being in desperate need of the KAM teams help we
quickly loaded up the ‘twuck wid da fwashin lights’ to go and rescue Mrs S. A
short while later Benjamin Button had arrived back at the Sawley depot with Mrs
S and her smoky, lifeless car in tow. While the boys unloaded the car, we let
Mrs S take comfort in our waiting room with a nice hot coffee. By this time she
was less worried and was very thankful to the KAM team for coming so quickly to
pick her up. “Wow Kev I can’t believe how great your service is. I might even
make it to work on time.” We assured Mrs S that the KAM team would return her
car back to its best and that she could have full access to one of our state of
the art courtesy cars. After all the details were given Mrs S drove away in the
courtesy car and we promised to keep her updated on all the car’s developments.
It was then time for this week’s mechanic to stand forward
and so it fell to Benjamin Button to take on this week’s gremlins. He started
out with some visual observations and then got to work on testing various areas
of the car. It was not long till the infamous words rang out “I’ve got it Kev.”
It so transpired that the air conditioning compressor had siezed and so this
had been the reason that the steering wheel was acting erratically and the
awful noises. This had also been why the smoke had been billowing and all that
remained was to find the cheapest solution and Mrs S would have her car back as
good as new.
Now there was one small problem, it was in fact a Sunday and
our fantastic suppliers would not be able to drop off promptly a new air
conditioning compressor. It would take at least 4 days for the part to arrive,
as it is a very particular and rarely replaced part. It was then time for the
team to revert back to some old style mechanics and see whether the existing
compressor could be salvaged.
Ben stripped back the compressor to take a closer
look and found that the reason for the siezing was faulty bearings and pulleys.
It would be much cheaper to replace these smaller parts than the whole compressor
so he got straight to work. Once the pulleys and bearing were replaced Ben then
re-gassed the air conditioning system. The moment of truth had arrived and it
was time to see whether using some old school mechanics had paid off or whether
we would need to disappoint Mrs S with bad news.
Ben took the car out on a road
test and arrived back at the depot with a large grin adorning his face.
“We did
it Kev, this car is back on the fast track.” Thankfully this time all that was
needed was some smaller parts and we managed to save Mrs S hundreds of pounds,
where other garages would just have replaced it and left her with a large bill.
The car
was fixed and Mrs S was ecstatic to have her car back and at such low prices.
“Wow Kev, next time I have even the slightest problem I will bring it in, you
just never know. I’m so glad I came down, nobody does honest and reliable like
the KAM team.”

will not be disappointed with our services. We work hard to put our customers
first and we look forward to meeting you.
I would also
like to take this opportunity to introduce a new member of the team. We will be
seeing more over the coming weeks and it will be interesting to see if any of
them can challenge Dan for KAM’s resident ‘mechanical wizard’. First is
‘Tornado Tyla’, he was an apprentice at KAM and now is a fully-fledged member
of the team. He will be on hand to take on all mysteries but is a qualified
tyre and exhaust specialist and so I predict a lot of success from him.
There will be
more of the team introduced in time but there will also be help from some old
favourites. Our very own Diagnostic Dan will be on hand to help out with any
diagnostic mysteries and will be hoping to impart some of his wisdom to our new
team. Senator Shaun will also be overseeing some quality control and will
ensure that the garage runs smoothly for the first few weeks. I will also be there- so if you would
like to come down and visit we look forward to your call.
Remember
faithful reader, our team of dedicated and hard working staff at the branches
in Sutton, Long Eaton, Bulwell and Belper along with our bodywork shop are open
every day of the week, EXCLUDING Sunday’s, while the lads at our Sawley and
Heanor workshops are at your service seven days a week, keeping your car where
it belongs. ON THE ROAD.
So until next week faithful reader, drive safely and keep it
shiny side up.

Mr T's Tumultuous Tigra

Hello faithful readers and welcome to another week of adventures from the KAM team. We have been very busy this week as you continue to heed the call and more and more of your cars are being restored to perfect health. You can leave your comments, questions and queries at our facebook page at www.facebook.com/kamservicing and our twitter page at www.twitter.com/dr_kev.
This week our KAM depot in Sawley was the site of bravery and heroics as we were again gifted with a mechanical mystery. Our team was hard at work with their heads under the bonnets and their bodies under the cars. Diagnostic Dan was hard at work on his first mystery of the day and the rest of the boys were stretching their diagnostic muscles. It is in the morning that we received a call from Mr T, whose Vauxhall Tigra, had suffered from a sudden state of stagnation. Mr T said that when he was driving, the car suddenly stopped and now he was calling his trusted KAM team in the hopes that we could save him.
We immediately sent Tasmanian Trev in the ‘twuck wid da fwashin lights’ and after a short while he returned with the car and Mr T in tow. Mr T was a little upset at the state of the car but did seem quite pleased at something else. He did not display the annoyance of some of our other customers when their cars are momentarily unavailable. I was curious to see what was wrong with the car but was more curious to see why Mr T was not as concerned about his car’s problems. “Well Kev I have received some good news recently and although I am worried about my car I am also happy about recent developments.” The recent developments were the recently announced plans to release details of an inquiry into the upgrade of the A453 in Nottinghamshire. Mr T was a lecturer at Nottingham Trent University in Clifton. He had been using the A453 for years and had petitioned for the upgrades for years. “Kev this is great. It is the first step to getting an upgrade and the road could really use it. I am constantly getting stuck in traffic on that road and the upgrade-if it happens will be great for all of us.” We were happy to hear the news and the work is expected to get underway in the next 3 years so even our customers coming down from Nottingham can have a smoother and easier ride in. It will also mean that our ‘twuck wid da fwashin lights’ can get to our customers quicker and we await the decision to start work.
We took all of Mr T’s details and then we dispatched him off in one of our courtesy cars so that he could get back to work and not have to suffer any more inconvenience. Benjamin Button hooked the car up to our state of the art machines and proceeded to check the injection system and the fuel pressures. He was armed with his pressure gauges and the results of the diagnostic machine were released. It was a fuel pressure problem and he wanted to ensure that this was in fact the problem so he took out a rather unorthodox test. He rigged up a separate electric fuel pump from a can of petrol and ignited the engine. The car roared back to life and the infamous words rang out “I’ve got it Kev.” It so transpired that the electric fuel pump was faulty and so this would need to be replaced. Our fantastic suppliers arrived later with the new part and Ben fitted it and then got behind the wheel. He turned the key in the ignition and after a few seconds ... the car roared back to life. “We did it Kev. This car is back on the fast track.”
Mr T arrived later and was very happy to have his car back in such great condition and at such a great price. “Wow Kev, I can’t believe it. I just seemed to be inundated with good news these days. I can always count on KAM to put a smile on my face.”
