KAM Sawley To The Rescue

This week we received a call from a startled Miss G who had experienced a fright while driving along the road. “It was a large bang that just came out of nowhere Kev. I am so scared to get back in.” Miss G was shaken by the noise and was stranded unable to drive and I need of the KAM team’s help.

Our Sawley depot was the site of the distress call and it was a rather busy morning for the boys. We had mysteries being solved left, right and center. Would we be able to help Miss G? I scored the workshops and spotted Diagnostic Dan busy, diagnostic machine in hand. Tasmanian Trev had his head tucked under another car and it appeared that the whole workforce was otherwise occupied with the plight of other cars. Just as I was about to load up the truck myself a familiar voice said. “What’s next Kev?” It was Flywheel Lee who had just finished one gremlin hunting mission and was ready for another.

Lee immediately loaded up the ‘twuck wid da fwashin lights’ and went upon his mission to rescue Miss G and her Ford KA.

It was not long till he returned with a more relaxed Miss G and the lifeless car in tow. We welcomed Miss G with a nice hot coffee and as she explained again how the banging noise had come out of nowhere and that she needed her car for the next day. “I know it’s a lot to ask but I am happy to wait here while you work on it. I just want to make sure it’s safe to drive and I only trust in the KAM team.”

Here at KAM safety is key and we do all we can to ensure that your car is at its best. We will do a number of FREE checks on request if you feel unsafe in your car. Our talented technicians will find and fix any and all faults. We guarantee high quality repairs at the lowest prices so just give us a call.

While Miss G occupied herself with daytime’s finest TV Lee got straight to work with his preliminary checks.

It was not long till the famous words rang through the workshop and even caught the ears of Miss G who raised a smile. “I’ve got it Kev.”

It so transpired that the frightening bang did not cause as much damage as we had feared. It was a simple case of a snapped coil spring, which can occur over a period of time. Speed bumps and potholes can also be the cause of snapped coil springs so be careful when you drive. A broken coil spring can cause imbalance in the car and this can be dangerous while you are driving so Miss G had made the right decision to call the KAM team. Fortunately for her the damage had not been too damaging to her car or her purse.

Lee called our fantastic suppliers who arrived promptly with the replacement parts. A new pair of coil springs were fitted with expert precision by Lee, as coil springs should always be replaced in pairs due to tensions & balance of the axle and as with nearly all suspension repairs we would need to realign the wheels. The alignment was reset using our 4 wheel laser aligning machine and then it was time for a road test. Miss G asked to accompany Lee so that she could see the results of the KAM team’s hard work for herself.

They both embarked on the road test and upon their return both he and Miss G had huge smiles adorning their faces. “You did it guys. This car is back in the fast lane.” Miss G said with delight.

Mr T's Major Trafic Problem

Hello faithful readers. The floods have been sweeping the country as more of the Midlands become submerged in water. We would like to extend our thought to all those affected and we hope the inconvenience isn't long lasting. Here at KAM we want to help in whatever way possible and so for anybody whose car has been affected make sure to come to KAM and let us help. Our talented technicians are on hand to take on all those flooding frights and so you won't have to worry about a thing. You can trust in the KAM team- come rain or shine!!

This week it was our Heanor depot that received a call from Mr T who was stranded after his Renault Trafic had suffered a collapsed wheel. “Kev I have to be at work and my van is literally my livelihood.” Mr T was not exaggerating as he was in fact a plumber and his van housed all his tools. With the van broken down he needed help to get the fault fixed but more importantly to get to work.
This is where KAM Servicing’s fast and efficient recovery service would come in handy and so we loaded up the ‘twuck wid da fwashin lights’ and Tasmanian Trev was on his way. To save Mr T time, so that he did not have to miss out on any income we also sent along a KAM van so that he could carry on with his day. While loading up the Renault Trafic, Trev took all the necessary details and ensured Mr T that we would keep him updated on the car’s developments.

It was not long till Trev returned to the depot with the van in tow. The wheel looked rather unsightly and it was up to the KAM team to fix the car and get it back to Mr T as soon as possible. It was the turn of Jump Lead John as this week’s mystery solver and he got straight to work stripping back the layers to take a closer look. It was underneath these layers that John discovered something rather surprising. “Kev there is new brake discs and pads. They look like they could have been fitted yesterday.” This was rather odd and pointed to a job that had not been completed or had not been undertaken properly. We rang Mr T and he explained: “Oh yes Kev my son fitted those but he did tighten the wheels after.” It appeared that Master T’s DIY mechanics had not been as successful as he had hoped and had caused some damage to the car. But how much???

Tasmanian Trev with all his tools!!

Senator Shaun was then brought in to get to the bottom of the problem. He again stripped back the brakes to get a better look.  It was not long till the infamous words rang out and it so transpired that the wheel bearings in the brake discs had not been properly tightened. This had led to a domino effect on other car parts as the load of the vehicle had caused the bearings to overheat, which had in turn melted them to the stub axle causing the wheel to collapse. Now this all sounds very complicated but this was not a catastrophe as it could all be repaired by our talented mechanics.

It is Senator Shaun to the rescue!!

The brakes were salvageable but it would take a delicate and precise hand to remove the pieces of bearings that had stuck to the stub axle. Armed with his tools and his steady hand it was not long till the pieces were removed and the axle was in perfect condition.  It was just some old school mechanics, which has been lost in this era of computers and automated repair systems (which KAM also like to use). The stub axle threads were also repaired so that all the components were fully functioning. To finish we fitted new bearing and then properly tightened the wheels so that no more problems would occur.

With our mechanics working hard the wheel was back to new in no time and after a thorough check suddenly the whole van came to life. It was another triumph for the KAM team. “We did it Kev. This car is back in the fast lane” Shaun said with a smile.

Mr T arrived later and was ecstatic to have his car back fault free. “Wow Kev. Your boys really work hard to accommodate the customer and I could not be happier. These prices are unbelievable.”

Flooding in Sawley and Long Eaton

Come rain or shine:
Here at KAM we are very sad to hear about all the flooding especially as the Midlands is the worst hit area.
So we would like to offer you some advice straight from our qualified mechanics.

If your car is suffering from flood damage you should not attempt to drive it. This can be dangerous and so we would recommend you take it to your nearest KAM garage.
You should not try and start your car until a qualified mechanic has:
- Inspected the mechanical a...
nd electrical components, and systems that contain fluids, for water contamination.
- Drained flood water from contaminated parts and systems, flushed with clean water or an appropriate solvent, and refilled with fresh fluids.
- Inspected, cleaned, and dried electrical system components and connections.

Here at KAM we want to keep you safe and so let us take care of your car at the lowest prices. For your nearest depot go to www.kamservicing.com

Mr F's Problematic Passat

Hello faithful readers it has been another eventful week at KAM and there is lots going on. With children in need coming up the KAM team have been getting involved in the community to help raise those vital funds needed to help vulnerable children. This is why we helped out for the annual Guru Nanak sponsored walk from Nottingham to Derby. The volunteers from the Sikh temple in Derby braved the cold weather for this great cause and we were very happy to help. The volunteers stopped at our Long Eaton depot in Derby Road and were met with warm drinks and refreshments to help them on their way. We would love to know what you are doing for Children In need.

More good news this week as KAM has officially become members of the Derbyshire County Council Gold Card Scheme. This means that if you possess a gold card you can now receive 15% off all your future car repairs. We want to ensure that our prices stay low and that you get the best value for money. We are very happy to be able to provide the discount and look forward to your next visit.

This week our Sawley depot was the site of engineering feats and car fouls as we received a visit from a spooked Mr F. In the spirit of Halloween it seems Mr F’s car had developed some scarily impossible habits. “Kev it is my Volkswagen Passat it is like a ghost car. When I take the key out the car is still inexplicably running. I have no idea what is going on.” Mr F had previously taken his car to two other garages but they had quoted him very costly repairs so he had come to KAM in the hope of some reprieve.  We assured Mr F that we would not only find the problem but also fix it to a budget that was suitable to him. Here at KAM we keep costs low and standards high.

Once all the details were taken Mr F was despatched in one of our new state of the art courtesy cars and we got straight to work. This week was the turn of VW expert Dan to take the reins and he did so with due diligence.  First he did some visual inspections and it seemed this piqued his interest as he asked. “Does the engine running happen more in the rain.” After reading over Mr F’s details it so appeared that it did in fact occur more often in the rain.

After hearing this Dan then removed the carpet up from the passenger side floor well and the famous word rang out. “I’ve got it Kev.”  There lying beneath the carpet was the ECU (engine control unit) which had become submerged in water. This had led to the electrics being shorted out and this had wreaked mayhem in the car, in this case the car’s unexplainable running. This was a result of the water drains in the bulk head next to the pollen filter having become blocked. Now we had to keep Mr F’s budget in mind when undertaking the repairs and so we first unblocked the water drains and cleaned out the ECU. First it was dried out and resealed and the ECU was back to its best. We did not need to replace the ECU and in fixing it we had saved Mr F hundreds of pounds.

Dr Kev- KAM Servicing
Mr F returned later and was delighted to have his car back faultless and road ready. Even better for Mr F was the fact that he was a gold car holder and so received an extra 15% discount on his repairs. “Thank you to you and the boys Kev. I can’t believe you fixed it so quickly and at such low prices. At least now I know there is a garage that I can trust.”

Miss D Citreon Calamity

Hello faithful readers this week we have been as busy as ever as we take on more pf your car gremlins. Now that the clocks have gone back and the cold weather is slowly encroaching, now is the best time to get your car checked.

We are very sad to hear about Hurricane Sandy and the disastrous effects it has had one of my favourite cities New York. Our very own Senator Shaun has just returned from a great holiday in the Big Apple and thankfully he came back just in time so that he can continue to beat those car gremlins. Our thoughts are with those affected and we hope everyone stays safe.

We would like to let everyone know that our 8th depot in Stapleford is now open. Our new depot is located at Hickings Lane, Stapleford, Nottingham, NG9 8PA. We are very happy to see how the next chapter in the KAM team will unfold. The new depot will be fronted by Motor Mass and he will be joined by Wheelie Wayne and Joyful John. They will be able to take on all your car faults so call them today on 0115 9252525.

This week our Heanor depot was the site of engineering heroics and it was where we received a visit from Miss D. She came to our garage in quite a panic and she was quite startled by her car’s recent developments. “Kev you have to help me. My car is having so many problems and I need it for tomorrow. This could not have come at a worse time.” Miss D explained that her Citreon C2’s engine stoplight had appeared that morning and the car was not driving well. “Kev the engine light came on so I checked the levels and it was not boiling up. Then the car kept slowing down to 30mph please help. I start my new job tomorrow I need my car.”

Miss D was desperately in need of the KAM team’s help and so we gave her use of one of our courtesy cars and she was able to get on with her day. We then got to work and Diagnostic Dan was this week’s mystery solver. First he observed the car to see if there were any visible faults. After a short while he then found that a problem may lie within the coolant temperature sensor. But we could not go on a hunch and so we would need to test it. So Dan removed the coolant sensor and tested it with his state of the art oscilloscope. It was a new diagnostic machine and so Dan displayed it with pleasure as he awaited the results. Before that though he put the sensor in cold water and just as we expected the reading were off. The temperature read 91 degrees. This was most unusual and the machines released the results. Much like the lines on a heart monitor it was clear that this sensor had flat lined.

Dan shouted out the famous words “I’ve got it Kev.” It so transpired that the coolant temperature sensor was in fact faulty and in need of replacement. It had been sending false messages to the brain of the car (the ECU) and this had been the reason for the appearance of the light and the slowing speeds.  Dan called our fantastic suppliers who arrived with the part promptly and it was fitted with military style precision. The wiring was checked the coolant levels topped up and the car was ready to go. He then got behind the wheel and turned the key in the ignition. The key turned and the car came roaring back to life. “We did it Kev. This car is back in the fast lane.”

Miss D arrived later and was ecstatic to have her car back and ready to go for the next day. “Wow Kev I can’t believe you fixed my car in such a short space of time. You lot are lifesavers. I knew I could trust in you.”

Benjamin Button's BMW Challenge

Hello faithful readers it has been another busy week at KAM as we continue to get more of you back on the road using our automotive expertise. Our talented technicians are trained to take on even the biggest car gremlins and so you can be sure that once you come to KAM the problem will be fixed with no fuss and no mounting bills.

We have had a lot of enquiries about in car technology for cars and we are happy to say that this is a possibility at KAM. We are well equipped to take on all electrical car work, from Bluetooth systems to in car entertainment the KAM team are here to take care of all your car needs. Our main priority is the customer and so we work hard to keep prices low and we welcome a price comparison. So if you are looking to spruce up your car just call the KAM team and we will have you riding around in style.

This week our Beeston depot was the site of heroics after we received a visit from a disgruntled Mr S. He arrived at the garage in his BMW and was very quick to inform us of his previous failed attempts at getting his car fixed. “Kev I can’t believe that my car has been faulty for weeks now and I still haven’t found one garage to fix it properly.” Mr S explained that his car had been losing water and that previous garages had been unable to fix the problem.

“Kev I went to a garage and they said the head gasket needed replacing and you don’t even want to know how much they said it was going to be. I looked on the Good Garage Scheme and found you and I am hoping for a second opinion. Please say you can help.” We ensured Mr S that we could find the problem and that he would not need to waste any more money as we would find the most efficient and cost effective forms of repair. Mr S was then given use of one of our courtesy cars so that he could get on with his day uninterrupted.

It was the turn of Benjamin Button to show off his engineering prowess and he started by undertaking some observations to see if there were any visible faults and as the previous garage had diagnosed a head gasket problem we also tested the head gasket for leaking gasses and surprisingly there were no gremlins lying here. We would need to investigate further but the good news was that Mr S would not be landed with an unnecessarily large bill for futile repairs. On this particular BMW there was an oil cooler and so Ben proceeded to remove the oil cooler and test it to see if any problems lay within. It was not long after testing that the results were released and Ben shouted across the workshop “I’ve got it Kev.”

It so transpired that the oil cooler had become defective. There are jackets on the oil cooler which allow the water through to cool it and these jackets had burst allowing the water to leak through to the system.

All that was needed was a new oil cooler, which arrived promptly from our fantastic suppliers. The coolant system was also flushed out to get rid of any excess fluids. The levels were then topped up with new coolant, engine oil and filter rounding out the repairs. Ben finished the repairs and then we gave Mr S’s car a wash so that he could have his car back in pristine condition. “We did it Kev.” Ben smiled after returning from as road test. “This car is back in the fast lane.”

Mr S returned later and was very happy to have his car fixed and was especially pleased to see the significantly lower bill. “Wow Kev I knew I could trust the KAM team you really do care about the customer and I can’t wait to get on the Good Garage Scheme to let everyone know how great the service is here.”

You can leave your comments, questions and queries at www.twitter.com/kamservicing  our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/kamservicing.
