Mr G's Mazda Match Mess

This week we have been very busy at KAM as we cater to all your motoring needs. The cold weather has taken hold of the country and has caused more than a few problems within many cars. If your car is suffering as a result of the autumn weather bring it in to KAM today and let us take care of you and your car. Our specialist mechanics will find any gremlins that may be lurking and you can be sure that the prices will be kept low.

This week saw Liverpool and Manchester United play at Anfield, the first match since the shocking outcome of the Hillsborough investigation. The investigation cleared fans of any wrong doing and it was great to see both teams come together and show unity for those tragic fans that lost their lives. It was an exciting match and congratulations to Manchester United for a great win. Hopefully this will encourage more harmony within football and the respect shown by the players made for a memorable event.

Now I mention the weekend’s football as it was for this special match that Mr G was gearing up his people carrier- a Mazda 5. As a long time Liverpool fan he and his friends had been lucky enough to get tickets to the Liverpool and Manchester United derby at Anfield. In an effort to be prepared he checked the levels of his car the Saturday before and was surprised to see how low his levels had become. The oil required just a short top up, which Mr G had in his garage. It was in fact the water levels that had become worrying low. He observed that he had put in over 5 litres of water. Surely this was not right and so he would need to call up our dedicated KAM team late Saturday evening for some much needed help. He called up our Sawley depot.

“Kev you have to help, there must be something wrong with my car. I have just topped it up with 5 litres of water, surely it should not have used up that much water since the last time I topped it up.” This was strange as there was a lot of water being lost through the car and all signs pointed to a major leak. We told Mr G to bring the car down to the garage as soon as possible so we could find the problem. “Please say you can help Kev. I have a very important match to attend tomorrow.”

The KAM team was beginning to wind down their work for the day but we could not leave Mr G stranded as he was in dire need of our help. He arrived a short while later and was panicking. But he was willing to stay and wait till the KAM team had found the problem.

Benjamin Button was assigned this week’s mystery and first looked into our computer advisory system. He found that the last time Mr G had been in for a service he had been warned of a seepage of water from the water pump, which we had recommend he have changed. As Mr G had been working abroad he had failed to remember the recommendation and so the water leak had continued. The water pump had not been replaced and Mr G had not been back to have it checked by the KAM team.

Now he was left with a leaking car and it was a race against the clock to see if we would be able to see him reach the football match tomorrow. It was clear, after Ben had done the testing that the water pump was leaking and as a result the cam belt had also become worn. We called our fantastic suppliers and it was not long they arrived with the parts needed. Ben fitted the new water pump and a new cam belt.

“We did it Kev. This car is back in the fast lane.” Ben topped up the rest of the levels within the car and checked the tyre pressures to ensure that the car was 100% safe to drive. Mr G who had been enjoying a nice hot drink in the comfortable KAM waiting room emerged with a big smile on his face. “Wow Thanks Kev, I can’t believe you got it back to its best so quickly. I knew KAM could help me out in the 11th hour. You really are here to help.”

Its bad timing for Mrs G's Corsa

At KAM our boys have been hard at work. While those pesky gremlins continue to perturb cars, your dedicated KAM team continue to exterminate them. The swashbuckling has been in abundance across all of our 7 depots as the cold weather begins to envelope the country. The summer has gone and the cold, dark mornings are among us.
It is for this reason that we would recommend getting your car checked at KAM. We can carry out safety checks and will guarantee to get to the root of any problems that may besiege your car. Our talented technicians are on hand to ensure that all your motoring needs are met and we offer unbeatable prices. Don’t get caught out this winter, make sure your car is ready to brave the weather.

This week we received a visit from Mrs G who arrived at our Sawley depot, early on Sunday morning. Our boys were just setting up for the day and before we saw Mrs G approach we heard a loud rattling noise coming closer to the garage. “What is that?” asked Benjamin Button and within seconds Mrs G arrived in her Vauxhall Corsa and an exasperated look on her face.

She parked up the noisy car and then retreated to the warm waiting room to regale her car’s woes. “Kev as you can hear my car is not doing well. It sounds like a bag of nails under there. I heard a noise the other week and thought nothing if it. Now the noise has amplified and I am worried that I may have left it too long.” Mrs G was the wife of a current KAM customer Mr G and he had told her to get her car checked last week. “My husband kept telling me but I haven’t had time. Please say you can help.” Mrs G was in trouble, the noise coming from her car was a truly awful one and so we would need to work hard to find the solution.

We took all of Mrs G’s details and then dispatched her off in one of our courtesy cars. We promised to keep her updated on all the car’s developments. Mrs G was happy to leave the car with the KAM team but was even happier to be going to the Long Eaton beer festival. She said: “I know you will be able to find the fault Kev. My husband swears by you. Maybe if you do a good job we can bring you and the boys some beer back to celebrate.” She joked.  Mrs G did need her car back for Monday morning and so we ensured her that the KAM team could find and fix the car before she returned from the festival.

We then got to work and Diagnostic Dan was this week’s mystery solver. He hoisted the car up onto the ramp and then hooked it up to one of our state of the art diagnostic machines. Alongside this he also moved around some of the inner auxiliaries to see if the problem would become evident. It was not long till Dan called out the famous words “I’ve got it Kev.” It so transpired that the timing chain had become worn so it had been slamming against the engine covers, resulting in the discordant noises.

Now here at KAM we have our own specialist engine shop and so are able to fix all faults that lie within the engine using our state of the art tools and equipment. As an engine specialist Dan undertook the repairs and thankfully Mrs G had bought her car just in time and this time the damage had not been irreparable. All that was required was a timing chain and new sprockets as well as a new water pump, which were all fitted expertly by Dan. The car was seemingly fixed but all that was required was to test it and see if the noise had been eliminated. Dan sat behind the wheel and turned the key… The car jolted back to life and the noise was gone. “We did it Kev. This car is back in the fast lane.”

Mrs G arrived back at the garage later, she was the designated driver but Mr G was slightly worse for wear. “Thanks so much Kev, I can’t believe how quickly you fixed it and this price is just fantastic. The KAM team strikes again.” Mrs G was so pleased with our work that she booked in her car for a full service which had been well overdue. “At these prices and with such highs standards I would be silly to go anywhere else.”

KAM beats London prices to save Mr M hundreds

Hello faithful readers, this week has been another hectic week at KAM as we welcome more and more of your cars into our workshops. The boys at KAM have been taking on your request for the ‘holiday checks’ I recommended last week. Remember if you are going away in your car make sure to bring your car into KAM so we can keep you and your family safe. We will check all levels, tyres and brakes and you can have a fun filled holiday with no risk of breaking down. Another thing to consider in this erratic weather is the air conditioning and we here at KAM are offering free air conditioning checks so make sure to come down and take advantage of our great prices.

Now not only was last week busy for the KAM team but it has also been a busy week for Nottingham and Derby with the arrival of the Olympic torch. We have had the privilege of seeing some of Nottingham and Derby’s finest proudly represent our area by brandishing the historic flame. We here at KAM were lucky enough to see the runners and we had a great time cheering everyone on and experiencing the air of patriotism. With the Jubilee and now the Olympics we have been able to celebrate a lot this year and there is hopefully more to come with Andy Murray at Wimbledon, could this be his year?

Now back to this week’s adventure it was Friday when we received a visit from Mr M who coincidentally arrived at our Beeston depot in yet another van. Here at Beeston we have seen an influx of van drivers recently and we welcome them all as we help to get our loyal customers back on the road. If you have a van that is in need of repair bring it down to KAM and we will get you back on the road in no time.

On this particular day Mr M arrived in his Vauxhall Vivaro van and had come quite a long way to test the KAM boy’s services. “Hello Kev I have heard nothing but great things about you boys from my parents and they said I would not be sorry.” Mr M was from London and had been having problems with his van recently. He was a self-employed electrician and was back In Nottingham for the weekend to see his parents. It was on his father’s advice that he had bought his van down so that the KAM team could help him out. “Kev I have been told that the air conditioning condenser need replacing as well as new cam belts and apparently the water pump needs changing.” This was a scenario that the KAM team are used to. When another garage says that work needs to be done it usually means that they want to extract more money from you. Here at KAM we do the correct testing and only undertake the necessary work. Mr M also added: “Kev I have been quoted over £1500 for the work and I just think even for London that is extortionate. I also need the van back for Sunday please say you can help.”

We assured Mr M that we would find and fix any faults that lay within his car and that we would do it a price that he would be happy with. We were also shocked at the estimated price as it seemed very high for the parts needed.  He was then whisked away in one of our courtesy cars and we had a deadline so we got straight to work.

Diagnostic Dan got to work and started to rigorously test the van to see where the problems lay. After a short while the infamous words rang out “I’ve got it Kev.” it was clear that the diagnosis had been correct and that we would need to replace the air conditioning condenser, replace the cam belt and the water pump would need to be changed. However we were certain that it would not cost £1500.

Dan called up our fantastic suppliers and the parts arrived promptly and Dan used his military style precision to ensure that the van was put back together properly. “We did it Kev. This car is in perfect condition, and at a fraction of the cost he’d been quoted.”

Mr M arrived later and was ecstatic to have his van back in such a short amount of time and was even happier at the price of the repairs. “Wow Kev I am so glad I decided to come to the KAM team. You are kings among men and I can’t believe your repairs were nearly half the price I was quoted. I’ll definitely be back.”

KAM's Annual Holiday Check

Hello faithful readers it has been another week of gremlin busting here at KAM as our talented team works hard to get your cars back on the road. We have seen many people coming in recently complaining of faulty air conditioning. Thanks to the recent surge in good weather more and more of you have been relying on your trusted air conditioning to keep you cool. But after a winter of being unused the air conditioning can sometimes have the opposite effect. It can become faulty and bacteria can build up resulting in a rather unpleasant smell.

If you are experiencing similar problems with your air conditioning make sure to bring it down to KAM where we can undertake a free test to determine the problem. It may just be something minor but you must not hesitate as the problems can worsen. The test is free and can end up saving you money in the long run. The test is no obligations and so you will not be left with any hidden or added charges and we will not commence with work until you give the go ahead. For all your air conditioning needs come down to KAM and let us keep you cool this summer.

I would also like to impart some more advice for all car owners for this upcoming summer. With Britons shunning overseas beaches to stay home and enjoy our fine shores it would seem that this would be the perfect time to get your car checked. However shockingly according to the Good Garage Scheme, 58% of holidaymakers will not have their car checked before departing on long road trips. Now if you were to breakdown on the way to your holiday destination this could prove very costly and dangerous. So to avoid having your holiday ruined let KAM check your car over to ensure that it is road ready.

Here at KAM we will undertake the most comprehensive tests to ensure that all gremlins are found and that you and your car are kept safe. We will check the tyres to ensure that the pressure and tread are within the correct parameters. One of our talented mechanics will happily top up all oil and fluid that is running low. This can be very important and prevents the engine from overheating. If the car’s wipers or washers need replacing we will call up our fantastic suppliers and get them at a fraction of the price so you save money. The brakes are the most important components to your safety and we implore you to look out for excessive noises and any changes in the quality of drive. If so the KAM team can check the discs and pads so that you are not putting your life in danger. We will finish this ‘holiday check’ by ensuring that the air conditioning is in good working order and you will be free to take to the road- worry free.

Now back to this week, there was disappointment in Football with the England team being knocked out of Euro 2012.  With the wave of patriotic pride sweeping the nation it almost seemed a possibility that we could get through to the semi finals. But alas it was not to be and instead we must look forward to bigger and better things. With football out, it is tennis in and it is that time of year when the whole country must again pin all their hopes on Andy Murray.  With expectation weighing heavily, Andy Murray will again try to get his first grand slam and we shall wait with baited breath. Can he finally break through? Will we have our first British winner in 76 years? Only time will tell whether Murray can take that giant leap but I for one am looking forward to the next two weeks of exhilarating tennis.  I hope everyone has got their strawberries and cream ready.

It is also an exciting week for Nottingham as the Olympic torch will makes it way around Nottingham on Thursday and Friday. It will be great to see and we are especially happy, as the torch route will be passing our very own KAM depot on Queens Road, Beeston. Our boys will be cheering on those lucky torchbearers and we hope everyone has a great time. But remember it is these types of occasions you don’t want to miss and so make sure your car is in good condition before you embark into busy Nottingham. It is better to be safe than sorry and so if your car is suffering from any problems make sure to bring it down to your nearest KAM depot.

You can leave your comments, questions and queries at www.twitter.com/dr_kev and on our blog at www.drkev-kam.blogspot.com and our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/kamservicing.   Remember faithful reader, our team of dedicated and hard working staff at the branches in Sutton, Long Eaton, Bulwell, Beeston and Belper along with our bodywork shop are open every day of the week, EXCLUDING Sunday’s, while the lads at our Sawley and Heanor workshops are at your service seven days a week, keeping your car where it belongs.
