Mrs K's Toyota Torment

Hello faithful readers it has been another busy week at KAM as we deal with the erratic weather and get more of you back on the road. With this strange weather ensuing, it is the best time to get your car checked by the trusted KAM team. Whether you want to ensure that it can handle a sudden flooding or just want to keep cool with the air conditioning make sure to call KAM now. We have great offers that could save you lots of money and we also offer free checks for your car. From exhausts and gearboxes to tyres we want to makes sure that you are kept safe this summer.

It has not only been a good week for KAM but also for England as Andy Murray made it to the final of Wimbledon. He was the first Briton to make it since Bunny Austin but unfortunately it was not to be. The magnificent Roger Federer overpowered Andy but we must applaud Murray’s efforts and surely now that elusive grand slam cannot be far away. We shall see at this year’s 2012 Olympics. There is already excitement in the air for the games and I for one cannot wait to see every minute. We are in for a great summer of sport- we just have to hope that the weather holds out.

Talking of weather it was on a surprisingly hot day that we received a call to our Long Eaton depot. The boys were hard at work on their gremlin fighting when Mrs K called in quite a panic. “You have to help Kev. I can’t believe this. I barely touched it. Oh My Goodness, what will I do?” Mrs K was definitely at the higher end of panic than we are used to and I listened to see what the problem was. “Kev it’s my husband’s car it just started smoking out of the exhaust and I haven’t even driven it yet. He’s going to be so upset he loves that car. Please say you can help.” Mrs K explained that the car in question a Toyota Landcruiser had, after she turned the key, suddenly without warning began to smoke and had filled the air with a dark grey cloud. The reason Mrs K was so upset was that her husband was away on business and had given her strict instructions not to drive his beloved car. “Kev he is back in a couple of days and after all I have read the KAM team are the only ones for the job.”

We assured Mrs K that the KAM team would be able to help her out and that we would not rest until the fault was found. We also advised her to switch the car off until we arrived. Tasmanian Trev immediately embarked on the short trip in the ‘twuck wid da fwashin lights’ and before long a happier looking Mrs K arrived back at the garage with the sluggish car in tow.

We assured her that the KAM team would not let her down and that she need not worry. We were also curious to see whether she had in fact driven the car and if any incidences had occurred. But Mrs K was adamant that she had not driven the car. “Kev I was going to this morning when the smoke started, I have no idea.” Mrs K was then dispatched in one of our courtesy cars and we got straight to work.

Benjamin Button was this week’s mystery solver and saw noticed that the smoke was probably an internal problem and that he would have to revert back to some old style mechanics. Armed with his tools he looked around the car and then proceeded to remove the ancillaries to take a further look. It was not long until the infamous word rang out. “I’ve got it Kev.”

It so transpired that the oil pipe that feeds the turbo was broken and so the oil was going to the exhaust and was causing the clouds of smoke from the exhaust. The mystery was solved and in an impressively short space of time by Benjamin Button. I think Diagnostic Dan may have some competition. Thankfully all that was needed was a new turbo pipe and seals, which arrived from our fantastic suppliers in an even shorter amount of time.

Benjamin Button fitted the parts with precision and then came the moment of truth as Ben sat behind the steering wheel and the key was turned in the ignition. The boys concentrated on the exhaust as the car sprung to life and the smoke was nowhere to be seen. “We did it Kev. This car is back on the fast track.” Ben shouted in delight.

Mrs K arrived later and was very relieved to have her husband’s car back fault free and shining from our complimentary car wash. “Wow Kev I can’t believe you solved this one so quickly. You really are the A team of mechanics and you really saved me today.” She also explained why her husband had been so persistent about not driving her car. “Kev he said that the oil had been leaking for a few weeks and that he had told me not to drive it because it was faulty. But it was the KAM team to the rescue yet again so thank you from both of us.”

I love it when a diagnosis comes together.

Mr G finds the light

Hello faithful readers our Beeston depot is officially open and the boys have got off to a flying start. We are seeing more and more customers come through the doors and the boys are being kept busy with all the new challenges that arrive. I myself have been helping out down there but am happy to report that Super Sunny is doing an excellent job along with Fearless Frank and all the new boys that have joined the KAM team. Our new ramps continue to hoist up cars and our winning record for finding and fixing faults continues.

Our new customers have also been enjoying our new facilities and the comfortable sofas have already become a favourite with waiting customers and our mechanics at Beeston are on hand to take on any gremlins that may besiege your car and as always you can expect high standards at the lowest prices.

For a limited time the KAM team at Beeston is offering a number of money saving deals for all of our customers. So if you need your brakes, batteries or alternator checking make sure to come down to KAM for total piece of mind. At KAM Beeston we are also in possession of one of the most state of the art wheel alignment centres in the Midlands and we can offer you HALF PRICE on all wheel alignments. We also offer a free health check to all customers and all tests have no obligations so you can choose the work that is undertaken on your car.

But don’t just take our word for it, our customers have been very vocal in their support for KAM Beeston and this week was no different. A few days after the grand opening of Beeston, we received a visit from Mr G, who had read about the new depot and was eager to see what the fuss was about. “Kev I have read all about you and I thought I would put you to the test.” Mr G was sceptical about garages having spent a lot of money and with no solution being found. We welcomed him into the reception and as he took on a seat on the sofa and sipped from a cup of hot coffee he regaled the recent problems he had faced. His car a Toyota Landcruiser had been displaying the ABS light intermittently for quite a while and Mr G was concerned especially after another garage had supposedly ‘fixed it’. “Kev I have taken it to other garages and have had 4 ABS sensors fitted and the problem still exists. Please say you can help.” Mr G was desperate to find the cause of the problem and so we assured him that the KAM team would find the problem.

After all the details were taken Mr G was whisked away in one of our courtesy cars and we got straight to work. “I’ll take it Kev.” said the familiar voice of ‘Big Ben’. Ben immediately plugged the car up to our new, state of the art machines at Beeston and awaited the results. But a short while later he was to be disappointed as they did not point to any faults. Next in the diagnosis process would be a reversion to old school mechanics and armed with his multi-metre and probes Ben got to work checking the wiring of the car. He stripped the back seats of the car and checked the continuity of the wires. After a short time of prodding and poking the famous words rang through the workshop. “I’ve got it Kev.”

It so transpired that part of the wiring loom had burnt out. The wiring loom goes towards the ABS and so this had been the reason for the sporadic appearance of the light. Thankfully the damage had been minimal and all that was needed was a new section of wiring loom. The new part arrived after a quick call to our fantastic suppliers and Ben fitted it meticulously making sure to ensure that no further faults would occur. The car could now need to be tested. As Ben started the car, one by one the dashboard lights went out. “We did it Kev, the light is gone. This car is back on the fast lane.”

When Mr G arrived later he was very happy to have his car back to it’s best. Wow thanks Kev, the service you provide is excellent and KAM Beeston is surly going to be a big success.”
